Mark Yount, PhD, Corporate Compliance Officer

Dr. Yount joined Gateway in January 2002 as Quality Improvement Director and assumed additional duties as Corporate Compliance Officer in 2007.  As Corporate Compliance Officer, Dr. Yount is responsible for ensuring that client rights are fully protected,  that alleged violations are investigated effectively and impartially, and that Gateway responds quickly and effectively to sentinel events and critical incidents.  Dr. Yount also leads the agency’s continuous quality improvement efforts and has oversight of utilization review, medical records, and satisfaction surveys.  

Dr. Yount came to Gateway following two years as Substance Abuse Licensure Specialist for Florida Department of Children and Families District 4, where he evaluated all licensed programs in the five-county area at least annually to determine their compliance with State licensure standards. 

With a B.A. from the College of William and Mary, M.A. from Villanova University and Ph.D. from University of Colorado at Boulder, Dr. Yount’s first career was as a university Philosophy professor for 12 years, where he won teaching awards, published, and gained extensive administrative experience.  Dr. Yount first entered the addictions field in 1999, when he interviewed several hundred county jail inmates using the Addiction Severity Index as part of the pilot for the Breaking the Cycle program.  At DCF, Dr. Yount consulted extensively with provider agencies, conducted district-wide training, contributed to the statewide taskforce revising licensure rules, and improved the consistency and accountability of the licensure process.
