Gateway gave my life back to me by taking me through and giving me the tools I need. Gateway taught me to control my anger, accept rules and regulations, and helped me to learn the importance of helping others. I was given help to obtain an apartment. I was baptized on April 25, 2010 at Cheets Creek Church. Now, I facilitate a women’s Thursday night “step study” with Celebrate Recovery, a Christian 12-step program. I also attend Celebrate Recovery four days a week, Recovery Support Services at Gateway on Tuesdays, Relapse Prevention at the Sulzbacher Center on Wednesdays. When I asked a member of AA to take me to Detox, I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that I was truly an alcoholic, unable to quit drinking on my own. Gateway detoxed me in five days and when a counselor recommended long term treatment, I enrolled in First Step Camp. I was blessed to get a sponsor that I had met in at an AA meeting while at Step Up. I learned the steps through the program so that when it became time for me to begin working the steps with my sponsor, I understood them. I was placed at the Alumni House, where I found a job in 30 days. After paying rent, going to meetings and working the steps for two more months, I turned my will and life over to God, and within a week I was further blessed to move into the apartments in Alumni Village. I go to at least two meetings a day and participate in Recovery Support Services at Gateway -David K.

Gateway Community Services has done so much for me. I hated myself and everyone around me during my addiction. Luckily, my Higher Power saw differently. Through allowing myself to surrender, working on myself, and learning to work with others, Gateway taught me how to be myself again. I again became a good mother to my son. I now believe that with my Higher Power (spiritually), Gateway (emotionally), hard work (physically) and perseverance (mentally), anything is positively possible! Gateway has done so much for me. I remember the time when I was so weak in faith and spirit. The motivational classes worked wonders for me. I attended 10 classes while waiting for an opening in Step Up. I feel I was more prepared to face life’s ongoing challenges and situations.
